- 258: With fearful shrieks the fiend exclaimed
- 259: And forth with Surpanakha sped
- 260: A hero strong in valorous deed Is Rama
- 261: For Rama and his brother go This day to Yama's realm below
- 262: There screamed the vulture and the crane
- 263: All signs foretell the dangerous strife
- 264: And Rama clothed in warrior might
- 265: And furious upon Rama rained Dart
- 266: These fiery Dushan strove to cheer
- 267: Rushed upon Rama fierce and fast
- 268: Marked Khara as he onward sped
- 269: For Khara deemed in senseless pride That he
- 270: Vaunts the high race from which he springs
- 271: Like some red bolt alive with fire Hurled it at Rama
- 272: King Ravan gave the leave he sought
- 273: And this fair Sita will I bring Back to my city triumphing
- 274: Tremendous as the jaws of Death
- 275: To Ravan of the eyes of fire Her tale
- 276: And Trisiras and Dushan lay Low on the earth
- 277: Dushan and Khara breathe no more
- 278: Then bright Gandharvas met his view
- 279: The fiend Maricha thus addressed Ravan the king
- 280: When wise Maricha heard the tale His heart grew faint
- 281: The dear delight Of Rama unapproached in might
- 282: Thus Rama with his beauteous mien
- 283: In my fright A thousand Ramas mock my sight
- 284: Will I bear away The Maithil dame an easy prey
- 285: Me first perchance will Rama kill
- 286: His hoofs were carven lazulite
- 287: And bring thy brother Lakshman too
- 288: To Lakshman Rama turned and spake Mark
- 289: To guard the Maithil lady stand
- 290: The deer's bright form Maricha left
- 291: The Maithil dame with many sighs
- 292: With lotus garland on thy head
- 293: My Rama sought his father's face
- 294: Me the true and loving dame Of Rama
- 295: Hast thou To do with fallen Rama now
- 296: And his fierce breast with fury glowed
- 297: Is the dear consort and the dame Of Rama
- 298: Say What fault on Rama canst thou lay
- 299: And thus addressing Ravan spake Thou
- 300: They wept to see the Maithil dame Endure the outrage
- 301: On the dark brows of Ravan fell
- 302: Thou meanest of thy giant line
- 303: Then Ravan speeding like the storm
- 304: Adorned with nets of golden twine
- 305: Thus to the Maithil lady sued The monarch of the giant brood
- 306: Thus with terrific threats to her Spake Ravan
- 307: If valiant Lakshman yet survive
- 308: Thou art much to blame Leaving alone the Maithil dame
- 309: I marked that Sita came not too
- 310: The fawn eyed Sita wandering here
- 311: After toil and pain Wilt meet the Maithil dame again
- 312: Who with my Sita came Return alone
- 313: To Lakshman thus he cried Brother
- 314: Roams Sita of the dainty waist
- 315: And Lakshman followed close at hand
- 316: Gandharvas in their radiant place
- 317: And bright Gandharvas in the sky
- 318: Jatayus there with blood drops dyed
- 319: The fate of ravished Sita tell
- 320: Stole Sita from thy dwelling place
- 321: Soon as the fiend had fled from sight
- 322: The sons of Raghu thus addressed What men are you
- 323: Let the vengeful sword Smite off his arms
- 324: While Lakshman gazed with anxious eye
- 325: Naught know I of thy Maithil spouse
- 326: Will with his Vanars seek the prize
- 327: And Pampa flushed with roseate glow
- 328: The aged votaress pure of taint
- 329: That holy sphere the dame attained
- 330: There flushed the lotus darkly red
- 331: When balmy sweetness fills the air
- 332: The loud Koil swells his throat
- 333: Or blooms that deck Palasa 532 sprays
- 334: Since Sita from my side is torn
- 335: The Vanars in their wild unrest Prepared to turn and fly
- 336: As on their course the Vanars sped
- 337: This Vanar chief most eloquent
- 338: His prudent speech the Vanar heard
- 339: Because this chief of Vanar kind
- 340: Thus answered with a gentle smile Great Vanar
- 341: Sugriva hied Within the mountain's caverned side
- 342: And with meek request Entreated Lakshman
- 343: Then his glad voice the Vanar raised
- 344: And each sage lord Named Bali king with one accord
- 345: Thus Bali spoke in words severe
- 346: Of Vanar tribes that roam the wild
- 347: Sugriva spoke inflamed with ire
- 348: The sovereign of the Vanars gazed
- 349: Raghu's son Beheld the conquered Vanar run
- 350: And followed where Sugriva led
- 351: Which mighty bands of Vanars hold
- 352: And with indignant pride Forth from the bower the Vanar hied
- 353: Found Sugriva stationed on the ground
- 354: When he saw Rama and Lakshman nearer draw
- 355: I see The raiment of a devotee
- 356: The Vanar king in turn reproved Why dost thou
- 357: Now Bharat rules with sovereign sway
- 358: To Rama thus the Vanar cried True
- 359: Who leads The Vanars like a lion
- 360: Our Vanar race and thee to save
- 361: O'er Angad or the realm I claim
- 362: The crowd Of noblest Vanars shrieked aloud Since thou
- 363: My glory I And Angad now with thee will die
- 364: To Rama with his train he went
- 365: Hast thou No eyes to see Sugriva now
- 366: The chieftains of the Vanar race
- 367: Soon from the inner chambers came The Vanar of exalted fame
- 368: The Vanar lord Great glory has acquired
- 369: When King Sugriva will invite To action
- 370: Before thee myriad Vanars stand To sweep through heaven
- 371: Go seek him sunk in bliss and sloth
- 372: Thus be the Vanar king addressed
- 373: The gathered Vanars saw and fled
- 374: Of Vanars raised their suppliant hands
- 375: Celestial garlands red and green
- 376: Spare The Vanar caught in pleasure's snare
- 377: The matrons of the Vanar race See marks of fury in thy face
- 378: Impetuous from the northern skies
- 379: So suppliant stood the Vanar bands
- 380: Compassed by countless legions
- 381: Trace the spot Where Ravan hides
- 382: If Ravan there with Sita dwell
- 383: With utmost heed that isle explore
- 384: For Vanars there need fear no ill
- 385: And far and wide its lustre flings
- 386: Away the Vanars sped Like locusts o'er the land outspread
- 387: From his huge mouth by Angad felled
- 388: Then as the Vanars nearer drew
- 389: This wondrous store of rarest fruits
- 390: The noblest of the Vanar throng
- 391: No gifts will draw away The Vanars from Sugriva's sway
- 392: He who gave His life the Maithil queen to save
- 393: Fierce Ravan from his car he felled
- 394: Who borne away the Maithil queen
- 395: Jatayus fell Without a word to say farewell
- 396: Shall the dear name of Rama bear
- 397: Then princely Angad looked on each
- 398: From heaven she fell In Vanar form on earth to dwell
- 399: Then sprang the Wind God's son the best Of Vanars
- 400: And saints in heaven the Vanar praised
- 401: She thus addressed the Vanar lord Then forward to the task
- 402: Or sow Dissension mid the Vanar foe
- 403: The Vanar chief his way pursued
- 404: The Vanar cheiftain raised his eyes
- 405: And spacious halls where lances lay
- 406: No chiming of a zone was heard
- 407: She The Maithil queen must surely be
- 408: But Sita still was nowhere found
- 409: Searching for the Maithil queen
- 410: The Vanar from his station viewed
- 411: She lay among the fiends forlorn
- 412: Repent thee of thine impious deed
- 413: In luxurious bowers Spend with our lord thy happy hours
- 414: Alone in Janasthan he slew The thousands of the Rakshas crew
- 415: Containing a lamentation of Sita after Ravan has left her
- 416: Sought by our Vanar hosts in vain From east to west
- 417: Whom Ravan stole and bore away
- 418: The Vanar knew the lady's thought
- 419: Like Indra on Airavat 862 borne
- 420: The Vanar chief again began Yea
- 421: And saw the Vanar where he stood Amid the devastated wood
- 422: One in the face the Vanar smote
- 423: They charged their Vanar foe again
- 424: Thrice Aksha strained his dreadful bow
- 425: Before his friend The Vanar monarch
- 426: For spake he well or spake he ill
- 427: Flame has no fury for the flame
- 428: He neared the coast Where waited still the Vanar host
- 429: To Angad came with one accord The Vanars
- 430: The wondrous tale Hanuman told
- 431: The sun in his meridian tower Gives glory to the Vanar power
- 432: Fierce Vanars burning for the fight
- 433: And danced With waves whereon the sunbeams glanced Where
- 434: And the fierce Vanar in his hate Has left our city desolate
- 435: And this right hand Shall sweep the Vanars from the land
- 436: Let captive Sita be restored Ere
- 437: The troops with prudent skill arrayed
- 438: One Vanar yet could find a way To Lanka's town
- 439: The mansion of the Sire she gained
- 440: Against one giant what can two Unhappy sons of Raghu do
- 441: Sugriva and the chiefs he spied
- 442: Thus urged Sugriva famed for lore Of moving words
- 443: Who counsels like this Vanar lord
